Domain Name and Hosting
The first step in acquiring your Website is to choose a domain name. The domain name you choose must be easy to remember and important of all easy to spell. For local (South African) websites, a .co.za address is ideal, but if you plan an international business, it would be better to opt for a .com address.

Hosting is the actual space that your site occupies on the world wide web.

Good news for South Africans!!
For a long time it was quite difficult to create an eCommerce site as most of the platforms only worked with US Dollars and only Payment Gateways such as PayPal, Google Checkout or Skrill. Now, PayFast has made it possible for us to add a purely South African Payment Gateway to WordPress sites.
Our e-Commerce Website Design Package includes the right additions as well as incorporating PayFast as a payment gateway.
Our eCommerce Website Design makes use of getshopped.org’s WP e-commerce/WooCommerce plugin which is easy to setup and maintain. In the admin console you have full control over orders, payments as well as invoices – your control over you eCommerce store, helps you to keep costs low which means Affordable Website Design for you!!.
Why do you need a eCommerce site?
Nowadays it is possible to sell virtually anything online – as long as it is legitimate and you don’t break the law. You can sell cosmetics, jewellery, auto parts, cards, houses, gifts, crafts, underwear, couture garments – the list goes on and on. If you have a hobby, you can turn it into a money maker by selling what you make on your eCommerce Website.
Planning your eCommerce Website
1. Your Product Catalogue
Your eCommerce Website is going to be your Product Catalogue. Therefore it is important to carefully plan your:
Product Images (Do not use your competitor’s images) and the
Your eCommerce site should be easy to understand and navigate and it is important to have a shipping, delivery, privacy and terms of service for your site.
Find out at the post office and courier how much it will cost to ship/deliver/send your product. Make sure you have the correct amounts so that you can add it to the shipping area of the eCommerce Website. Remember to include packaging costs as well.
It is very important to have a Returns Policy on your eCommerce Website.
Ebay has a very good returns policy where they pay the person to return the goods to them while they send the replacement.
Your Returns Policy plays a big role in instilling trust for your client. So plan this very carefully and also make it available on your invoices.
4. Payment Gateway
If you are planning to sell only in South Africa, the only Payment Gateway I would recommend is PayFast. PayFast is designed by South Africans for South Africans and supports Standard Bank, FNB, ABSA and NedBank Payment. This is also a great way of accepting credit card payments without having to acquire a merchant account at your bank. It also offers you a Secure Payment Environment which is compulsory if you want to receive online payments.
When using a Payment Gateway, the payment and invoice is automatically handled by the Gateway. You don’t need to manually check every payment.
5. Marketing Strategy
Having an eCommerce Website without a Marketing Strategy is like having a Shop without signage. No one knows about the shop, they don’t know what the shop stocks. Your Marketing Strategy should include:
Social Media Marketing such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Youtube, PPC Advertising through Google Adwords, LinkedIn and Facebook.
What is included in my eCommerce Website Package?
Categories will be created for you
Up to 40 Products will be loaded for you so that you can see how it is done (this way you will be able to manage your own eCommerce Website in future)
After you’ve registered for a PayFast account, we will setup your payment gateway The eCommerce system will be setup re: shipping, payment, invoicing etc
Having an eCommerce site has just been made possible by our Affordable Website Design Packages.
